The carambola is a highly prized exotic fruit in international markets, popularly known as "star fruit" or "star fruit ".

The carambola fruit is native and belongs to Indonesia and Malaysia. Its cultivation has spread to other tropical countries of Asia and America. The main producing countries today are Thailand, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia.

The pulp has little or no seed, is rich, crisp, juicy with a fine bittersweet. The large fruits of carambola are tastier and sweeter than the smallest, with a bittersweet taste.
